It is an exceptional UltraTrail by stages that this Machu Picchu Peru Ultra-trail. Three first stages between Cuzco, the ancient Inca capital, and the Sacred Valley, a journey to the kingdom of the Incas at an altitude of just over 3,000 metres. The second part will take place on one of the most beautiful trekking paths in the world, the Saltankay, which will lead us to Machu-Picchu via a pass at an altitude of 4,215 metres.

    • The stages are marked out and checked before your arrival, with tape that we take care to remove after your passage.
    • Various accommodations, hotels of good standard, overnight stays in local homes, lodges, and unusual nights. To allow you to recover properly, and to enjoy yourself as much as possible.
    • Refreshments every 10 to 15 km including : mineral water, solid energy food, fresh fruit etc. (according to availability)

The adventure of Benoit Laval (Director of the agency) in Peru in 2019 gave him the desire to transmit this unique journey, and to offer the privilege of surpassing oneself in new and preserved places.

After having been elaborated, the itineraries and routes have been checked and adjusted on the field by our Peruvian correspondents.

It is not just a race, it is a journey designed with care and passion.

Choice of courses :

  • Trail Course : The distances are about 20 km on the first 5 stages, to acclimatise to the altitude, before finishing with the marathon arriving at the foot of Machu-Picchu (from 5km/h).
  • Trek route : You also have the possibility of setting off on a gentler formula with shorter stages, while retaining the most beautiful scenery that the Peru UltraTrail offers (from 3.5km/h).

Itineraries :

They are given as an indication. They can be modified according to the weather conditions of the moment, technical criteria or the physical condition of the participants. The organisation is the sole judge of the programme, which it may adapt or modify for safety reasons.

  • The various transfers by minibus and train
  • Entrance fees to the paying sites (listed in the programme), in particular the entrance and visit of Machu Picchu.

The price does not includes :

  • Drinks other than those provided by Nature Extreme Development and more generally alcoholic drinks.
  • Activities or visits other than those included in the programme.
  • Cancellation and repatriation insurance.
  • The cost of any excess weight charged by the airlines is the responsibility of the participants.

Field organisation

Stage markings :

The marking is made with red and white tape that we take care to remove after our passage. Systematic scoring is compulsory at each refreshment post. GPX files are provided to runners who wish to use them.

Refreshments :

Every 10 to 15 km or so. The exact locations will be confirmed at the daily briefing the day before each stage. They include: mineral water (corked bottles), solid energy food (dried fruit, biscuits, etc.), fresh fruit (bananas, oranges, etc.) depending on availability.

Nature of lands :

Most of the stages are at high altitude. The raid is organised in 2 distinct parts (Part 1: Cuzco & The Sacred Valley; Part 2: Saltankay).

It is relatively technical, with well-marked mountain paths. The entire route takes place at an altitude of over 2,000 metres, and regularly at 3,000 metres.

Assistance and security vehicles :

Vehicles will be on the course ready for possible interventions. Where possible, and for the transport of luggage.

Accommodation & Meals

Accomodation :

The nights will be spent in hotels in the cities of Cuzco and Agua Calientes, in mountain lodges, in local people’s homes, or in an unusual memorable place.

  • In Cuzco, you can stay in a hotel in the city centre.
  • In the mountains, you will have one night in a homestay, one night in a lodge and one night in an unusual place.
  • In Mollepata, you will have a hotel with all the facilities you need.
  • In Agua Calientes, you will have a hotel with all the facilities you need.
  • In Puno, you will spend the night in a hotel.
  • Finally, you will enjoy a last night on islands of Uros in the company of the islanders.

Meals :

  • Lunches, dinners and breakfasts : 

Lunches will be taken together at the end of the stages, copious, of quality and adapted to your needs. The meals will be composed essentially of vegetables, starchy foods, chicken and meats, all of which are adapted to sporting efforts. They will be prepared at the hotel where we will be staying as well as in the local restaurants welcoming us at the end of our stages.

  • Special dietary requirements :

Allergies, intolerances…: make sure you take with you the adapted dishes or food, because the accommodations do not always have the possibility to propose a specific kitchen.
